I wonder if the sun ever wondered
I wonder if the sun ever wondered
What could it have ever done
To kiss it's Makers face
I wonder if lingered longer in His eyelashes
I wonder if it strained to illuminate his eyes
I wonder if it exhausted itself In a golden cry
To get the humanity it caressed every day
To realize
that it's own Source of light put on human flesh
That He was there for them.
Did His Light repulse it's rays?
Was He too pure even for the sun?
Or did it enjoy this matchless dance, This anomaly of light and Light?
Did they laugh secretly in their mutual understanding of atmospheric energy?
Was the darkness at Calvary necessary because the sun could not bear to see light leave the eyes of the One who taught it to shine?
Did it dim at this nightmare?
Did it yearn to know what it felt like to hide in the shadows?
Did the silence in the grave cause the sun to forget it's melody?
Did it refuse to sing?
When a breath broke the silence in that dark, cold tomb
Did sun break forth in a new light, too?
Were the other stars jealous that the Sun was first to touch the climax of their existence?
Resurrection light met the ordinary light of the star
And the universe trembled that such an exchange could have occurred
in a sea of human darkness
